Project 6: Assisting the Georgia Public Television section of PBS in creating a Documentary Film on the Portals to Shangri-La exhibit. (Project completed)

Pam Roberts, executive producer of “The Arts in Georgia” at the Atlanta branch of the PBS (GPTV) wanted to create a documentary on the exhibition, Portals to Shangri-La: Masterpieces from Buddhist Mongolia, and on the drama surrounding the fall of the Mongolian government, cancellation of the art from the Zanabazar National Fine Arts Museum, and the creation of a replacement exhibit drawn from eight private collections in America.

Pam needed footage from Mongolia, and approached Glenn to hire a local filmmaker to shoot some Mongolian landscapes, as well as conduct an interview with Glenn for the documentary.

Batbold Baast, publisher of the UB Guide, and also part time film-maker, came to the rescue. The footage was shot and sent to Pam, and much of it was incorporated into Pam’s “The Arts in Georgia” production. Again, funding was raised from friends and students for the project.

Glenn had already been involved in working on a Mongolian documentary with Jesus Becerra and Anna Maria Escalona from Miami. The film production is in progress. Jesus and Ana Maria also generously contributed some of their footage for Pam’s project.

A lo rez version of Pam’s film can be downloaded from the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art’s website. Look under “Past Exhibitions” (museum.oglethorpe.edu/exhib.htm) and scroll down. Then follow the prompts.
