Project 2:Building a Website for the Zanabazar National Fine Arts Museum (Project completed)
|
The Soviets put very little money into their museums, and largely saw art as a propaganda instrument. Therefore Mongolia, under Soviet control, built numerous museums, but spent very little money on maintaining them. Certainly no museum in Russia or Mongolia today has facilities that even halfway come up to international standards. After completing our project of photographing the great artworks of the Zanabazar National Fine Arts Museum, we applied to the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation for funding to build a website. This would make the Museum more readily accessible to the international art community, would open doors with international museums wanting to host Buddhist art exhibits or engage in scholarly exchanges, and would bring greater attention and thus traffic to the Museum. Again Don and Shelley Rubin graciously accepted our proposal.
To create the website, Batbold Baast and I approached Mr. Hisghey Bayer, a renowned Mongolian IT master. Hisghey kindly agreed to build the site at half his normal price. Also, an American company, Domain Dakini, purchased and registered the web name for us on a pro bono basis. (By the way, anyone wanting to create a great website at a very reasonable price can contact Hisghey at the following address: www.new-x@web
In addition to building the site, we were able to purchase a high speed computer for Ms. Oyun Tegshee, the Deputy Curator, with the objective of having her learn to maintain the site on a regular basis.
The Museum’s site address is www.zanabazarmuseum.org |
